First off love the Griptilian, but have always wanted a better steel and better handle. Here comes KW exclusive which is almost perfect. knife came razor sharp no real issues to speak of quality wise or steel choice. The handles however despite loving micarta, this paper stuff is somewhat slick. Still love the knife and haven't had any issues, just letting you know they aren't as grippy as the old plastic ones if your used to those.
This is a fantastic exclusive. Great blade steel. Really nice Micarta scales. Competitive price. The satin blade, steel pillars, and black Micarta is a nice look.
Hands down has to the the best EDC ever! However, let me be clear, it is this KW exclusive version with the M390 steal and micarta that makes this perfect!
for $60.00 more than the standard Griptilian its a no brainer, the scales are great, ,M390 is sweet, and the pillar construction is great, fit and finish are PERFECT! the lockup and centering are the best. I have 5 benchmades ...for now...
This is the best version of the griptilian available imo. The closest non-custom is the 551-1 g10 version which has 20cv. The reason I was drawn to this knife is that for the same price you get the features I wanted in quality handle materials and a flow through design with an equal steel in m390 but aesthetically in a color scheme I like...
To come close you have to customer order from BM with g10 and 20cv but end up spending a lot more...
What sealed the deal though is that I noticed that the knife was lighter than the g10 versions by a significant .35 oz, so the micarta weighs less but feels and operates the same. You can even create a knife this good on BM’s customs knife maker program.
This is a wonderful knife. It has perfect centering, no sharp edges on the beautiful micarta handles. This knife blows every other Benchmade out of the water. M390 is an incredible stainless steel. The knife has perfect fit and finish and amazing action. Simply an amazing combination of materials which makes this knife a true winner. Great job knifeworks!!!
This is a ruggedly built folder. It has Benchmade Griptilian lines. The blade shape and open back handle are what sets it apart. I rarely give 5 stars and the only reason I deducted the 4th star was because of the scale color. I would have liked to have seen some color options since I have grown weary of black. I also was expecting something different with it being a Knifeworks Exclusive like the others I have bought.
Just received my 551 yesterday and boy is it amazingly sharp! I’ve cut up a few boxes and opened some mail. (Yes, it can open mail pretty well lol) The blade just sales thru anything with ease. I did a ton of research prior to desiding on this 551. Was looking into getting a Socom Elite but the price was just to outta my budget. This 551 knife at this price is pretty much unbeatable. Get one today before they’re gone!
I absolutely love this knife. I own the G-10 CPM-20CV 550-1 Grip and this looks and feels like a higher quality knife. The Micarta is just grippy enough with a pleasant, dare I say luxurious tactile feel. The .2oz of weight savings of this knife over the G10 version is surprising noticeable and the Micarta offers some very welcome rigidity over the GFN scaled Griptilians. I was a little hesitant at first due to the plain color scheme but it fits with the classy feel of this knife. As a proud owner of a few Knifeworks exclusives, this is the best of the bunch in my opinion. Knifeworks has really hit it out of the park with this one. Now where are those mini-Grip and Sheepsfoot blade versions??
