Case Stockman: Classic 3-Blade Pocket Knives

The Stockman is Case's best-known multi-blade pattern: a traditional slipjoint carrying a Clip point, a Sheepsfoot, and a Spey blade on one handle, each shaped for a different job. It comes in Small, Medium, Large, and the curved-handle Sowbelly size, so there's a fit for pocket carry or a heavier working knife.

Handles span jigged and smooth bone, natural wood, Micarta, Kirinite, G-10, Genuine Stag, and Buffalo Horn, alongside licensed editions like Jeep and Chevrolet, tribute releases like Stars & Stripes and a Boy Scouts of America gift set, and select models in Case's CV carbon steel alongside the standard Tru-Sharp stainless.

Prices run from $52.99 for a Small Stockman in rough synthetic up through $139.99 for the Large Stockman 2024 Easter bone edition, so there's a Stockman here for an everyday carry knife or a collector's piece.

Three blades, three jobsThe Clip point handles everyday cutting and piercing, the Sheepsfoot's flat edge is built for controlled scraping and cutting without a point, and the Spey blade's rounded belly is suited to skinning and detail work. Having all three on one handle is what makes the Stockman one of the most versatile traditional patterns Case makes.

The Case Stockman Buyer's Guide (2026)

How to choose a size, handle material, and blade steel for your Case Stockman.

What Makes the Stockman Different+

Most Case patterns built this year carry one or two blades. The Stockman carries three: a Clip point, a Sheepsfoot, and a Spey blade, each on its own spring, making it one of Case's most versatile everyday-carry patterns.

It's also one of Case's longest-running patterns, popular with farmers, ranchers, and collectors alike for having a dedicated blade shape ready for nearly any cutting task.

The Three Stockman Blades Compared+
BladeShapeBest For
Clip PointConcave curve to a fine pointGeneral cutting and piercing tasks
SheepsfootFlat edge, rounded spine, no pointControlled scraping and cutting
SpeyRounded belly, small upswept pointSkinning and detail work
TipEach Stockman blade opens and closes independently on its own spring, so you can use one blade without disturbing the other two folded against the handle.

Tru-Sharp Stainless vs. CV Carbon Steel+

Most Stockman knives use Case's Tru-Sharp stainless steel, valued for corrosion resistance and easy touch-up sharpening. A handful of models, marked CV, use Case's chrome vanadium carbon steel instead. CV takes a keener edge but needs a light coat of oil after use to prevent rust, since it lacks stainless steel's corrosion resistance.

TipIf you want low-maintenance carry, choose a Tru-Sharp (SS) model. If you want a traditional carbon-steel edge and don't mind occasional oiling, look for a CV-marked Stockman.
Licensed & Tribute Editions+

Case licenses the Stockman for automotive editions like Jeep and Chevrolet, and produces tribute and organization editions including a Boy Scouts of America gift set, USMC and US Army editions, an American Workman series, and seasonal releases like Stars & Stripes and the 2024 Easter Stockman.

Case Stockman: Frequently Asked Questions

Answers from Knifeworks' team on choosing a Case Stockman size and handle.

What are the three blades on a Stockman knife for?+

The Clip point handles general cutting and piercing tasks, the Sheepsfoot's flat edge is built for controlled scraping and cutting without a point, and the Spey blade's rounded belly is suited to skinning and detail work.

What's the difference between a Small, Medium, Large, and Sowbelly Stockman?+

Small, Medium, and Large describe the straight-handle Stockman in increasing size, while the Sowbelly uses the same three-blade layout on a curved, bulging handle profile that collectors especially like.

What blade steel does the Stockman use?+

Most Stockman models use Case's Tru-Sharp stainless steel. A smaller number of models, marked CV, use Case's chrome vanadium carbon steel instead.

What's the difference between Tru-Sharp stainless and CV carbon steel?+

Tru-Sharp stainless resists corrosion and needs little maintenance. CV carbon steel takes a keener edge but needs a light coat of oil after use to prevent rust.

Is the Jeep edition officially licensed?+

Yes. Case produces this as an officially licensed collaboration, with the Jeep logo featured on a Stockman handle.

What is the Boy Scouts of America Stockman Gift Set?+

It's an officially licensed Stockman with the Boy Scouts of America emblem embellished on a smooth red synthetic handle, presented as a gift set.

Will a bone handle change color over time?+

Yes. Natural bone handles develop a richer patina with handling and age, which many collectors consider part of the appeal. Wood and synthetic handles keep their original color and texture indefinitely.

Yes. Case knives, including the Stockman line, are made at Case's factory in Bradford, Pennsylvania.
