The FlyFather 2 is a joint project between Pro-Tech Knives of Placentia, California and Squid Industries, a company specializing in performance balisong design. Pro-Tech contributes precision machining and blade production to their established manufacturing standard. Squid Industries contributes balisong-specific design knowledge — handle geometry, pivot tuning, zen pin placement, and the balance characteristics that make a butterfly knife flip well. The collaboration produces a knife neither company would build alone to the same specification.

Zen pins are small cylindrical pins set into the handles of a balisong that act as blade stops, preventing the blade from contacting and damaging the handle channel interior during flipping. On a zenpinless design, the blade tang itself contacts the handle, which can cause wear over time and affects the feel of the knife during tricks. Zen pins provide a consistent, cushioned stop that protects both the blade and the handle channel and contributes to the crisp, predictable action that experienced flippers prefer.

The FF2101 uses 154CM stainless steel with a satin finish. 154CM is the same steel Pro-Tech uses in the Godfather and other flagship automatics — a high-chromium stainless with reliable edge retention, good corrosion resistance, and straightforward sharpening on any ceramic or diamond medium. The spear point blade profile and flat grind are the same geometry as the Godfather blade, providing balanced performance in both directions for flip sequences and clean cutting performance when deployed.

Butterfly knife laws vary significantly by state, country, and locality. In the United States, some states permit balisongs freely, others restrict them by blade length or classify them as switchblades, and some prohibit them entirely. Internationally, laws vary widely — some countries prohibit import or possession entirely, while others permit them with restrictions. A bushing pivot system uses precision cylindrical bushings between the blade and handles at the pivot points, as opposed to a bearing or a washer system. Bushings provide a smooth, consistent pivot action that is durable over extended flipping use and easy to tune and maintain. They tend to produce a slightly more deliberate, controlled feel compared to bearing pivots, which some flippers prefer for learning and performing structured trick sequences. The FlyFather 2's bushing system is tuned from the factory for fluid, consistent action.

The FlyFather 2 measures 9.25 inches overall when open with a 4.25-inch blade. Closed length is 5.00 inches with both handles sandwiched together. It weighs 4.16 oz. The short black deep-carry clip is mounted for tip-up right-hand carry when the knife is closed and clipped.
