A thumb-operated slide rides in a track along the top of the handle, connected internally to the blade carrier and a pair of opposing springs. Pushing the slide forward compresses one spring and releases an internal gate lock, firing the blade straight out through the front of the handle. Pulling the slide back compresses the opposite spring, retracting the blade fully into the handle and locking it closed, all in one continuous motion.
