    ABLE Lock Knives: Hogue’s Enhanced Crossbar Lock with Wolf Omega Springs

    The ABLE Lock — short for Ambidextrous Bar Lock Enhanced — is Hogue's proprietary refinement of the crossbar lock, the same family of mechanism used on the Benchmade AXIS Lock. A spring-loaded steel bar sits across the top of the handle, under tension from a pair of coil springs, and slides forward into a notch machined into the base of the blade tang the moment the knife is opened, holding the blade rigidly in place. Pulling the bar rearward against spring pressure with either thumb withdraws it from the notch and lets the blade swing closed, so the lock operates identically from either side of the handle.

    Hogue built the ABLE Lock specifically to solve the wear and reliability issues that can develop on standard crossbar locks over years of hard use. The sliding bar itself is machined with an aggressive tri-step jimped profile for a firmer, more controlled grip when disengaging it, and Hogue pairs it with upgraded Wolf omega springs in place of the simpler coil springs found in many crossbar designs, for a smoother pull and greater resistance to spring fatigue or breakage over time.
