    The Kinematic mechanism is a revolutionary, award-winning opening and locking system invented by custom knifemaker Joe Caswell and manufactured exclusively by CRKT (Columbia River Knife & Tool). Unlike traditional folders that pivot around a single pin like a swivel, Kinematic operates on dual parallel linkages: pressing forward on the upper crossbar with your thumb, while your fingers keep a full-hand grip on the retention ring, swings the linkage arms forward and extends the hawkbill blade outward in a scissor-like motion.

    Once the blade reaches full extension, the linkage arms snap into place over internal stop pins, locking the blade rigidly open. To close it, you pull down on a small release lever built into the base of the handle ring, which allows the linkage arms to collapse the blade safely back into the handle body. The retention ring stays gripped in your fist the entire time, opening and closing without ever loosening or repositioning your hand.
