    Lucas Burnley brings a self-taught, road-forged perspective to modern EDC design. Raised on the move—including years spent living in a converted 1970s bookmobile before his family settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico—he was exposed to knife culture early through family road trips and flea market stops. He left home at 16 for a government welding program, later worked precision titanium body jewelry in a machine shop, and bought his first Bader 2x72 belt grinder at 17 with his Job Corps readjustment fund. Guided early on by New Mexico knifemaker Joe Cordova, he completed his first handmade knife around age 20 and turned fully professional in 2003. He now works out of Bend, Oregon.

    Burnley calls his aesthetic “Post-Tactical”—clean, sweeping blade profiles pulling from Japanese cutlery shapes like the Kwaiken and Tanto, built around usable geometry, subtle finger guards, and natural ergonomics rather than decorative tactical styling. Utility comes first: the knife stays a working tool underneath the clean lines. His longest-running production partnership is with Böker Plus, and he also collaborates extensively with CRKT and MKM (Maniago Knife Makers) to bring his designs to a global market at production scale.
