    Atlas Lock Knives: Cold Steel’s Dual-Pin Successor to the Tri-Ad Lock

    The Atlas Lock is Cold Steel's modern successor to its famous Tri-Ad Lock, built to deliver the same rock-solid lockup with a smoother, fully ambidextrous slide action. A traditional lockback absorbs impact at a single pin, but the Atlas Lock uses a sliding lockbar that drops securely over two separate hardened steel pins at once, doubling the surface area that spreads the shock of hard use across the mechanism.

    The lock sits entirely along the spine of the handle. A stop pin buffers and redistributes force from the blade back into the handle, while the lockbar itself stays compressed between the blade tang and the dual pins for a rigid, self-contained lockup. To close the knife, you press a textured slider button near the pivot with either hand and fold the blade back, keeping your fingers well clear of the edge the entire time.

    Cold Steel put the Atlas Lock through the same torture testing it uses on the Tri-Ad Lock, and reports that the dual-pin design handled more shock and held more weight before failing. At Knifeworks, the Atlas Lock currently appears on the Cold Steel Mayhem, a 6-inch clip point folder in AUS-10A stainless steel with a G-10 handle.
