    Scorpion Lock Knives: Andrew Demko’s Grip-Reinforced Lockback on the Cold Steel AD-15

    The Scorpion Lock is Andrew Demko’s take on the traditional lockback, built into the Cold Steel AD-15: the bottom of the handle carries standard G-10 scales over steel liners, while the entire top spine of the handle is a separate moving lever called the yoke. A compression spring hidden inside the handle constantly forces the yoke downward, so when the blade opens, a hardened steel pin running through the yoke drops into a deep notch cut into the blade tang and holds it there under continuous spring pressure. Demko added a stop pin to this design specifically to eliminate the blade play and overtravel that can develop on a standard lockback over time.

    The Scorpion Lock delivers a specific practical advantage over a standard lockback: the yoke sits exactly where the palm and fingers wrap around the spine, so gripping the knife harder presses the yoke down and reinforces the lock rather than risking a release. That grip-reinforcement is where the name comes from — lifting the yoke to close the knife looks and moves like a scorpion raising its tail. To close the AD-15, the user lifts the yoke up and away from the lower grip, pulling the pin out of the tang notch so the blade swings free; releasing the yoke lets spring tension snap it back into the locked position. The AD-15 ships in CPM-S35VN across G-10 and G-10/aluminum billet handle configurations.

    Why the Scorpion Lock feels different from a standard lockbackA conventional lockback hides its spring and pivot inside the handle, so the user has no sense of how hard the lock is working.
