He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Oregon in 1979 before opening his own knife shop, and became famous for his close ties to the U.S. Military and Special Operations communities—co-designing the legendary Yarborough Knife, presented to every graduate of the U.S. Army Special Forces Qualification Course, alongside Chris Reeve.

    Harsey's work spans some of the most influential partnerships in tactical cutlery.
