No. The 2180R is a traditional slip joint. A backspring holds the blade open with tension, but there is no lock, so the blade can close if pressure is applied to the spine. Open the blade with the nail nick, use it for cuts that push the edge away from you, and keep your fingers clear of the edge.

A Barlow is a classic pocketknife pattern known for its long bolster and simple, sturdy build. The 2180R has a single 3-inch sheepfoot blade, with a straight edge and a rounded-down tip for controlled cutting with less risk of accidental punctures. It works well for opening boxes, trimming, whittling, and everyday chores.

The 2180R has one larger 3-inch sheepfoot blade, which keeps it slim and light at 2.9 ounces. The two-blade versions, such as the rosewood BC2280R, pair a 2 3/4-inch sheepfoot main blade with a smaller pen blade for detail work. Choose the 2180R if you prefer one strong blade in a simpler knife.

High carbon stainless steel resists rust well and sharpens easily. Wipe the blade clean and dry after use, and add a drop of oil to the joint now and then to keep it opening smoothly.
