Product Description
The Cold Steel Talwar is what happens when Andrew Demko's design instincts and Lynn C. Thompson's demand for performance converge on a single folding knife. A 4.0-inch, 2-inch-wide CPM-S35VN blade, a Tri-Ad lock that outlasts any other folder lock under stress, and an ambidextrous thumb plate for instant draw-snag deployment — this is a large-format tactical folder built to outperform anything near its size class.
The Talwar's 4.0-inch blade is ground from CPM-S35VN stainless steel — a third-generation Crucible particle metallurgy steel and one of the most respected production blade steels in the industry. CPM-S35VN adds niobium carbides to the CPM-S30V formula, producing a tougher steel that chips less along the edge and is easier to sharpen without sacrificing edge retention. Heat-treated to 58-61 HRC, it sits in the sweet spot of hardness and toughness for a hard-use tactical folder. The flat grind runs a continuously curved cutting edge from choil to the upswept point, maximizing slicing geometry across the full blade length.
The Tri-Ad Lock is Cold Steel's proprietary locking mechanism and the most heavily stress-tested lock in production folder history. It uses a stop pin placed between the lock bar and the blade tang — when the lock engages, the geometry triangulates the lock bar, stop pin, and pivot against each other, transferring lateral stress, spine pressure, and torque into the frame rather than the lock bar alone. The ambidextrous thumb plate opener — Demko's signature contribution — allows draw-snagging the knife directly from the pocket: the knife opens on the draw stroke itself without a separate deployment motion.
