This version pairs a 3.88" black-coated 1095 drop-point blade with a partially serrated edge, gray Micarta handle scales with a modified pommel, and a Coyote Brown sheath with a MOLLE back.
1095 carbon steel is a classic outdoor steel: tough, easy to sharpen in the field, and dependable under hard use. ESEE runs it at 55-57 HRC. The 1/8" thick, flat-ground blade slices thin for processing game and making tinder, while the partially serrated section near the handle helps cut through cordage, webbing, and other tough, fibrous materials. The modified pommel gives the handle a distinct profile and a slightly shorter overall length than the standard ESEE-3.

How do I use and sharpen the partially serrated edge?＋
The plain section toward the tip handles clean slicing and carving, while the serrated section near the handle grips and saws through rope, cordage, and webbing. Sharpen the plain section as usual, and use a tapered ceramic rod or a sharpening system with corner edges for the serrations, working only the beveled side.
Will the 1095 carbon steel blade rust?＋
It can. 1095 is carbon steel, not stainless, so it needs more care than stainless steels. The black finish helps protect the blade, but the edge and any worn areas can rust or patina if left wet. Wipe the knife dry after use and keep a light coat of oil on it.
