The Thor is a fixed-blade chopper with a 10-inch laminated VG7 clip point blade, 0.28 inches (7 mm) thick, with a convex edge and a stainless steel finger guard. A protruding broad tang runs through the oxhide leather handle. The NL1L version ships with a black leather sheath.

Laminated VG7 has a core of VG7 stainless steel, which forms the cutting edge, sandwiched between outer layers of tough 420J2 stainless steel. The hard core holds the edge while the softer sides add resilience and resistance to torque. Fallkniven says the laminate gives about 20 percent more resistance to bending than a solid VG7 blade of the same thickness. On the Thor, it is hardened to 59 HRC.

A convex edge curves outward toward the cutting edge instead of meeting at flat bevels, which leaves more steel behind the edge for strength during chopping. Fallkniven grinds this edge by hand. To maintain it, strop on leather or use a fine stone with a slight rocking motion that follows the curve, or use a fine abrasive on a soft backing.

The oxhide handle gives a sure, rugged grip and develops a brown patina over time. Keep it away from prolonged soaking, and let it dry naturally if it gets wet. Fallkniven notes that very dry conditions can cause small surface cracks that close again with use. Each leather handle varies slightly in color and texture.
