In 2018, Adam Boyce, known by his moniker "Spartan Mode," brought the Ginunting into the spotlight. An Idaho native and a friend of TOPS Knives, Adam had the opportunity to participate in the "Forged in Fire" spinoff show "Knife or Death." Although he ultimately participated as an alternate, his collaboration with TOPS led to the creation of a prototype X16 Ginunting, designed to be showcased on the program.

Years later, while sorting through boxes of old models and prototypes, the Ginunting resurfaced at TOPS. The team recognized its potential and decided to officially introduce it as a TOPS model. The X16 Ginunting is a robust tool, weighing slightly over 2 pounds, similar to a small sword. Its design maintains the dual-purpose nature of its predecessors, functioning effectively as both an outdoor blade and a weapon.
