The blade is CPM-154, the Crucible Particle Metallurgy version of 154CM. The CPM process produces a finer, more uniform carbide distribution than standard 154CM, resulting in a blade that takes a keener edge, holds it longer through cutting tasks, and is easier to touch up on a ceramic rod or strop. In a kitchen context, CPM-154 outperforms standard kitchen stainless in edge retention and provides the stain resistance needed for food preparation and wet environments. The black coating reduces surface reactivity and keeps the blade looking clean between uses.
