CPM-S35VN is a powder metallurgy stainless steel developed by Crucible Industries in collaboration with knife maker Chris Reeve, released in 2009 as a direct upgrade to CPM-S30V. The addition of niobium carbides alongside vanadium carbides produces a tougher, more refined steel that is easier to sharpen than CPM-S30V without sacrificing edge retention — an improvement that made it the default stainless steel for serious production knives for over a decade.
At Knifeworks, you are buying from an authorized dealer: every CPM-S35VN knife on this page ships with full manufacturer warranty coverage — Benchmade LifeSharp (free lifetime sharpening and mechanical repair), Spyderco's manufacturer warranty, and CRKT's lifetime warranty against defects. No gray-market sourcing, no voided warranties.
CPM-S35VN holds a working edge through months of hard EDC use, resists corrosion better than tool steels and most mid-grade stainless steels, and sharpens on standard diamond stones without the frustration of high-vanadium steels like M390. It is the reason Benchmade built their AXIS Lock line around it and Spyderco uses it across their mid-tier and upper-tier production range.
