Kershaw SpeedSafe uses a torsion bar spring mounted at the pivot. When the user pushes the thumb stud to begin opening the blade, the torsion bar engages and drives the blade to the full-open position. Because the user must manually initiate the stroke, SpeedSafe knives are legally classified as manual folding knives, not automatics — the spring only assists, it does not actuate.

The Kershaw Leek is legal to carry in virtually all U.S. jurisdictions that restrict switchblades and automatic knives. Always confirm the knife laws in your specific jurisdiction before carrying.

A clip-point blade has the spine “clipped” at the tip — the spine curves or drops toward the tip from a notch or concave cut, creating a fine, controllable point with relatively little belly. On the Leek, this geometry produces a blade that is excellent for precision cutting tasks: detail work, seam opening, field dressing, skinning at the joint, and everyday cutting that requires a well-controlled tip.

Compared to the Blur’s drop-point, the Leek clip-point is narrower and more refined. Drop-points prioritize belly for slicing; clip-points prioritize tip control and piercing. The choice between them comes down to whether you primarily slice or pierce and detail-cut — both are excellent all-around blade shapes, just optimized differently.

Both the Leek 1660KC and the Blur 1670KC are USA-made Kershaw SpeedSafe knives with 14C28N stainless steel, Kings Camo GFN Trac-Tec handles, liner locks, and reversible pocket clips — covered by the same Kershaw limited lifetime warranty. The differences are blade shape, blade length, and overall profile.

The Leek has a 3.0-inch clip-point blade and is noticeably slimmer and more refined in hand. The Blur has a 3.4-inch drop-point blade and a wider, more substantial handle. The Blur’s extra 0.4 inches of blade and wider profile make it the better choice for extended outdoor work; the Leek’s slim clip-point and smaller package make it the better choice for carry where discretion or pocket space matters. The Leek blade finish is blackwash; the Blur’s is stonewash.

Sandvik 14C28N is a high-chromium stainless steel (14% Cr) with nitrogen enhancement (0.11% N), typically hardened to 58–62 HRC in knife applications. The nitrogen improves corrosion resistance and allows high hardness without sacrificing toughness. It is widely regarded as the best standard-production stainless for knife blades in its price tier — significantly better than AUS-8 or 420HC in corrosion resistance and edge retention.

For hunting and outdoor use, 14C28N is a practical choice because it resists corrosion from blood, moisture, and field debris well, and sharpens very easily on a ceramic rod — it responds in minutes to field-touch-up and holds a serviceable edge through an entire hunt.

Kings Camo is a licensed camouflage brand founded by hunter Randy Bartz, engineered for western big-game hunting in open terrain, mountain, and desert environments. The pattern uses photorealistic earth tones to break up the human silhouette against rocks, dirt, shadows, and vegetation at the ranges relevant to western hunting.

On the Leek, the Kings Camo pattern is applied to the GFN Trac-Tec handle scales. The Leek 1660KC is built for the hunter who wants the precision and slim carry of the Leek platform with a camo finish that matches the rest of their Kings Camo kit — apparel, packs, and accessories in the same licensed pattern.

The Kershaw Leek measures approximately 7.0 inches overall when open and 4.0 inches closed — notably slimmer and shorter than the Blur. The clip-point blade is 3.0 inches long and approximately 0.09 inches thick. The knife weighs approximately 3.0 oz and carries on a reversible pocket clip in a tip-up configuration for either hand. The slim profile makes it one of the least-intrusive assisted openers in its class.

Wipe the blade clean after use with a dry or lightly oiled cloth. Apply a light coat of mineral oil or knife oil before extended storage. Unlike DLC, blackwash does not chip; it wears evenly and the dark surface character is maintained as it ages. Sharpening removes the blackwash at the edge bevel, which is normal. For sharpening 14C28N, use a ceramic rod or whetstone at approximately 20 degrees per side.
