CTS-BD1N is an American stainless steel with added nitrogen, which helps it run at high hardness (60-63 HRC here) while still resisting rust. In practice, that means a durable edge that handles daily use, sweat, and humid weather without much upkeep. You release it from the spine side of the handle with one hand, which keeps your fingers out of the blade's path as it closes.
