The Squiddy-AL features a face cutout machined directly into the 6061-T6 aluminum trainer blade — a signature design element unique to the AL model within the Squiddy lineup. The cutout does not affect the trainer profile geometry or flip performance but gives the AL an instantly recognizable visual identity that distinguishes it from every other Squiddy trainer. It is one of the most visually distinctive blade designs in any balisong trainer currently in production.

The Squiddy-AL and Squiddy-ALT share the same core platform — 6061-T6 aluminum construction, 4.50-inch blade, 10.0-inch overall, 3.80 oz, hand-tuned phosphor bronze washers, pinless monoblock channel construction, and dual bite handle indicator grooves. The key differences are blade profile and balance. The AL uses a standard trainer face profile with the signature Squiddy face cutout and a light handle bias balance. The ALT uses a tanto trainer profile with no face cutout and a rebalanced optimized neutral bias with modular face-eye weight set screws for adjustable balance configuration. The AL is the personality pick; the ALT is the configuration pick.

Pinless construction eliminates zen pins entirely, relying on the monoblock channel geometry to manage blade travel through the range of motion. Without pins, the swing arc is clean and uninterrupted — there is no pin contact sensation during tricks. This produces a smoother feel that some experienced flippers prefer, particularly for fast sequences where pin feedback interrupts flow. The channel tolerances on the Squiddy-AL are machined precisely enough to control blade travel without pins.

Dual bite handle indicator grooves are tactile orientation markers machined into the handle spine of the Squiddy-AL. On a live balisong, the bite handle faces the sharpened edge when closed — knowing which handle is which is essential for correct technique. On a trainer the edge distinction disappears, so the indicator grooves restore that tactile feedback. A flipper can identify handle orientation by feel during mid-sequence recovery rather than stopping to look — a significant benefit for developing correct muscle memory.

A light handle bias means the Squiddy-AL is weighted slightly toward the handles rather than an even split. This gives the handles a slightly more authoritative swing during rotation — enough to feel the difference from neutral without the strong handle pull of the standard white Squiddy's balance profile. It is a moderate starting point that suits a wide range of trick sequences and can be adjusted through the modular balance system if a different feel is preferred.
