Product Description
The ESEE Gibson Axe is a compact, full-tang camp axe designed by bladesmith and bushcraft instructor James Gibson, pairing a 4.50" 1095 carbon steel head with sculpted brown Micarta scales and a brown leather sheath.
Gibson is an east Tennessee bladesmith who earned his American Bladesmith Society Journeyman Smith rating in 2003 and serves as lead bushcraft instructor for Randall's Adventure & Training. ESEE builds the axe from a single piece of 1095 carbon steel at 55-57 HRC, a tough, straightforward steel that takes a keen edge and is easy to touch up in the field. The 0.25" thick head is flat ground with a plain edge and finished in black oxide with a tumbled surface. At 10.50" overall, it packs small enough to ride on a belt or in a pack for kindling, limbing, and general camp chores.
- Axe Head: 4.50" 1095 carbon steel, flat grind, plain edge, black oxide coating with a tumbled finish, 0.25" thick, 55-57 HRC. 10.50" overall.
- Handle: Sculpted brown Micarta scales on a 6.00" handle.
- Construction: Full-tang, one-piece steel axe with no folding mechanism.
- Carry: 20.5 oz. Includes a brown leather sheath for belt carry.
Ideal for: bushcrafters who want a compact axe for kindling and limbing; campers and hikers who want a packable chopping tool alongside their knife; and ESEE Camp-Lore fans adding a James Gibson design to their kit.
Care: 1095 is not stainless. It may develop a patina where the coating wears, so keep the head dry and lightly oiled.
