On June 18, 1818, Henry Harrington established the first cutlery company in the United States in Southbridge, Massachusetts. In 1884 he named a line of kitchen and table cutlery after his son — calling it Dexter. In 1933, Harrington's company merged with the John Russell Cutlery Company — the maker of the legendary Green River frontier knives — forming the foundation of what would become Dexter-Russell, Inc. Today, Dexter-Russell is the largest manufacturer of professional cutlery in the United States, producing over 1,500 different knives and culinary tools from the same Southbridge facility where American cutlery was born. Every Dexter knife is built on DEXSTEEL — the brand's proprietary high-carbon, high-alloy, stain-free steel developed and refined over two centuries of professional cutlery making. NSF certified. Trusted by professional chefs, butchers, fishermen, and foodservice operations across America. Backed by a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Knifeworks carries the full Dexter lineup.
