CPM S30V is an American powder metallurgy stainless steel designed specifically for knife blades. It balances edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance, so it holds a working edge through long stretches of field use, stands up to sweat and wet weather, and still sharpens on standard stones. The 0.145" blade is full-flat ground from spine to edge with a satin finish for clean slicing, and its textured index-finger choil and thumb ramp support a choked-up grip for precise cuts.

You release it from the spine side of the handle with one hand, which keeps your fingers out of the blade's path as it closes.
