Product Description
The Para 3 C223GPBK distills the proven features of Spyderco's best-selling Para Military 2 into an even more compact, all-purpose folder. This all-black version pairs a black DLC CPM S45VN PlainEdge blade with black peel-ply-textured G-10 and black-coated liners and hardware.
CPM S45VN is a powder metallurgy stainless steel from Crucible, developed as an advance on CPM S35VN with added niobium for a fine, tough structure. It balances edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance, so it holds a working edge through daily use and stands up to sweat and humid weather. The 0.145" blade is full-flat ground for low-friction cutting and finished with a non-reflective black Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating, and its textured index-finger choil and thumb ramp support a choked-up grip for precise cuts.
- Blade: 2.93" CPM S45VN clip point with a 2.62" PlainEdge, full-flat grind, black DLC coating, 0.145" thick; textured index-finger choil and thumb ramp.
- Handle: Black peel-ply-textured G-10 scales with black-coated stainless steel liners nested into machined recesses, in a slim, open-backed build with black hardware; 4.29" closed, 3.4 oz.
- Deployment + Lock: Spyderco Trademark Round Hole for one-handed opening with either hand; the Compression Lock releases from the spine side, so your fingers stay clear of the closing blade.
- Carry: Four-position hourglass clip for tip-up or tip-down carry on the right or left side, plus an oversized lined lanyard hole; 7.20" overall.
Ideal for: EDC carriers who want a compact folder that still handles full-size cutting tasks; users who prefer a low-glare, all-black knife; and Para 3 fans who want the black-bladed version.
The Spyderco Para 3 in black DLC CPM S45VN with black G-10 (C223GPBK) ships same or next business day from Columbia, Louisiana. Knifeworks is an authorized Spyderco dealer.
Spyderco Para 3: Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about the Spyderco Para 3 (C223GPBK).
What lock does the Spyderco Para 3 C223GPBK use?＋
The Para 3 uses Spyderco's Compression Lock, built into black-coated stainless steel liners nested into machined recesses in the G-10 scales. When the knife is open, a leaf spring in the liner wedges between the blade tang and the stop pin. You release it from the spine side of the handle with one hand, which keeps your fingers out of the blade's path as it closes.
How does the Para 3 compare to the Para Military 2?＋
Spyderco designed the Para 3 to distill the proven features of its best-selling Para Military 2 into an even more compact, all-purpose cutting tool. It keeps the full-flat ground blade, Trademark Round Hole, textured choil and thumb ramp, Compression Lock, and four-position clip, in a 2.93-inch blade and a 4.29-inch closed length.
What is CPM S45VN steel, and what does the black DLC coating do?＋
CPM S45VN is a powder metallurgy stainless steel from Crucible, developed as an advance on CPM S35VN with added niobium for a fine, tough structure. It balances edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance. The black Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating gives the blade a non-reflective finish and adds a hard surface layer over the steel.
What is the Para 3 blade good for?＋
The C223GPBK has a 2.93-inch clip point blade with a 2.62-inch PlainEdge and a full-flat grind, so it slices cleanly for opening packages, breaking down boxes, cutting cord, and food prep. The textured choil and thumb ramp let you choke up on the blade for detailed, controlled cuts.
What comes with the Para 3 C223GPBK?＋
The C223GPBK ships as a knife with its four-position pocket clip installed. It is knife only, with no sheath or lanyard included. Packaging and included items are set by Spyderco and are subject to change.
