1095 carbon steel is a classic outdoor steel: tough, easy to sharpen in the field, and dependable for small cutting tasks. ESEE runs it at 55-57 HRC. The Pinch's 1.3" Wharncliffe blade gives you a straight edge and a controlled point for cutting cord, prepping tinder, and fine work, and its black oxide finish helps protect the blade.
