The Canis uses Spyderco's Compression Lock, built into the nested stainless steel liners. When the knife is open, a leaf spring in the liner wedges between the blade tang and the stop pin. You release it from the spine side of the handle with one hand, which keeps your fingers out of the blade's path as it closes.

The Canis was designed with Kelly McCann, whom Spyderco describes as one of the world's leading experts in counterterrorism, close combat, and security. Spyderco says his decades of real-world operational experience shaped this practical, no-nonsense folder.

The Canis has a 3.43-inch Wharncliffe-style blade with a straight edge that runs its full length, narrow bevels, a reinforced tip, and a mid-blade swedge. The straight edge gives precise control for opening packages, breaking down boxes, and cutting cord, and the reinforced tip adds strength at the point. The trade-off is less belly for long sweeping slices.

CPM S30V is an American particle metallurgy stainless steel developed specifically for knife blades, with a balance of edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance. It holds a working edge through daily use, resists rust in everyday carry, and sharpens well on diamond, ceramic, or quality synthetic stones.

The C248CFP ships as a knife with its four-position pocket clip installed. It is knife only, with no sheath included. Packaging and included items are set by Spyderco and are subject to change.
