Product Description
The YoJumbo C253GP is Michael Janich's scaled-up take on his Yojimbo 2, the design Spyderco credits with defining the "tactical Wharncliffe." It's over 20 percent larger, with refined ergonomics for a wider range of hand sizes. This version pairs a satin CPM S30V blade with coarse-textured black G-10 and brightly finished hardware.
CPM S30V is an American particle metallurgy stainless steel designed specifically for knife blades, with a balance of edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance. The 3.98" blade is hollow ground for a thin, keen edge with a satin finish. Its perfectly straight Wharncliffe edge runs the full length of the blade, carrying cutting power all the way to the tip.
- Blade: 3.98" CPM S30V Wharncliffe with a full-length 3.98" PlainEdge, hollow grind, satin finish, 0.145" thick.
- Handle: Coarse-textured black G-10 scales over nested, skeletonized stainless steel liners with brightly finished hardware, in an easy-to-clean, open-backed build; 5.37" closed, 0.45" thick, 5.3 oz.
- Deployment + Lock: Spyderco Trademark Round Hole for one-handed opening with either hand; the Compression Lock releases from the spine side, so your fingers stay clear of the closing blade.
- Carry: Four-position pocket clip for tip-up or tip-down carry on the right or left side; 9.29" overall.
Ideal for: fans of Michael Janich's Wharncliffe designs who want a larger knife; users with bigger hands who want a full grip; and EDC carriers who want precise tip control in a full-size folder.
The Spyderco YoJumbo in satin CPM S30V with black G-10 (C253GP) ships same or next business day from Columbia, Louisiana. Knifeworks is an authorized Spyderco dealer.
Spyderco YoJumbo: Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about the Spyderco YoJumbo (C253GP).
What lock does the Spyderco YoJumbo C253GP use?+
The YoJumbo uses Spyderco's Compression Lock, built into the nested, skeletonized stainless steel liners. When the knife is open, a leaf spring in the liner wedges between the blade tang and the stop pin. You release it from the spine side of the handle with one hand, which keeps your fingers out of the blade's path as it closes.
How does the YoJumbo compare to the Yojimbo 2?+
Michael Janich designed the YoJumbo by scaling up his Yojimbo 2 by over 20 percent and refining its ergonomics for a wider range of hand sizes. It keeps the hollow-ground Wharncliffe blade, Compression Lock, and four-position clip, with a 3.98-inch blade and a 5.37-inch closed length.
What is the YoJumbo's Wharncliffe blade good for?+
The YoJumbo has a perfectly straight edge that runs the full 3.98-inch blade length, with the point in line with the edge, so cutting power carries all the way to the tip. That gives precise control for opening packages, breaking down boxes, trimming cord, and detail cuts. The hollow grind keeps the edge thin and keen, though the straight edge has less belly for long sweeping slices.
What is CPM S30V steel?+
CPM S30V is an American particle metallurgy stainless steel developed specifically for knife blades, with a balance of edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance. It holds a working edge through daily use, resists rust in everyday carry, and sharpens well on diamond, ceramic, or quality synthetic stones.
What comes with the YoJumbo C253GP?+
The C253GP ships as a knife with its four-position pocket clip installed. It is knife only, with no sheath included. Packaging and included items are set by Spyderco and are subject to change.
