    How Pre-Orders Work at Knifeworks — The 5 Things to Know Before You Reserve+

    Five things matter before you place a pre-order: your card isn't charged until the knife physically ships, a "Pre-Order Now" listing means the manufacturer has confirmed the run and given us a production window, quantities are limited to what each manufacturer allocates to Knifeworks as an authorized dealer, ship dates can shift if the manufacturer's own production timeline shifts, and canceling a pre-order before it ships is always an option since no payment has been captured yet.

    We update ship-date estimates as soon as the manufacturer confirms them, so a listing without a firm date simply means one hasn't been released yet, not that the run has been delayed or canceled.

    What Is a Sprint Run?+

    A sprint run is a one-time production batch of an existing model in a steel, handle color, or blade shape that isn't part of the standard catalog, made in a fixed quantity and never repeated exactly the same way twice. Right now the clearest examples on this page are Spyderco's: the Smock Sprint Run in CPM REX 121 with a burnt orange G-10 handle and the Meerkat Sprint Run in CPM SPY27 both sell out once that specific run is gone, since the manufacturer typically doesn't reproduce that exact combination.

    This is why sprint runs sell out faster than standard catalog knives and why pre-ordering, rather than waiting to buy after release, is the more reliable way to get one, whichever brand runs it.
